Nigerian Mothers:The Craze for a female child?

Oh my,check out this adorable cutie in the above photo?you wish she was yours right?Oh baby girls, how we love them! This post has been tugging in my heart for a while and I dont know how to begin this post because each time I think and wish for a baby girl, the nostalgic feeling is so strong and it reminds me of how I felt when I discovered my second child was a BOY!
That was 4 years ago, when I was 7 months gone and out of excitement asked the doctor during a scan check for the sex of my unborn child. When he told me its a Boy!I laughed it off and said "must I have a barrack of soldiers"I could not sleep that night, not because I regretted knowing the sex of the baby before birth but I had fantasized having a baby girl as a second child!(dont mind me, as if I made any effort to influence the sex of my baby) Make una see who want baby girl?I prayed and confessed having a daughter as a  second child as advised in some quarters.Hehehehe I had even chosen the name "Annabelle" What actually kept me awake that day was the thought of how I was going to handle boys and train them to have interest for home making to an extent, also how I will miss out on selecting those pink, bright colors of clothing for a girl like tutus, ballet shoes that resembles cake, dresses with sequins, cute hair clips and bands etc Above all I and Hubby had plan to have two kids!oh,I was depressed but dont judge me,it was just a feeling of the moment, then I heard God tell me "it is your destiny to be the mother of two nations just like Rebecca, the mother of Jacob and Esua"can you believe this?moi, mother of two nations?then I let it go!come to think of it,my sons exhibit similar behavior just like Jacob and Esua, always on each other's case!lord help me!

Hmn,I know you,yes you reading this,Im sure you can reckon with my experience for yearning for a baby girl or rather you know someone with such urge to have a female child!well, although Im over it and have accepted my destiny,I want to know the experience of others. Is this selfishness or ingratitude to God?This does not mean I dont cheerish my sons, infact they rock and Ive learned to adjust to their world especially in their dress sense. I like it when I wear my plaid shirt and all stars sneakers to match with them!awwh, being a 21st century mother with a boy swag is so cool.Hey,see another cutie above!Come to think of it, once upon a time in Naija, every mother was crazy about having a male child, so much that some have ended up with a dynasty of female children, i.e giving birth to up to 10 daughters in search of a male child!hmn, man and his insatiable desire either because of society pressure. Hey hey hey, can you recall that family planning jingle in the 80's performed by legendary singers Onyeka Nwenu and King Sunny Ade "having babies no be joke o" Make anybody like make em compete with the number of king solomon's wives marry ya fu ya fu for the sake of male child or female child, abi na business negotiation with God? Na to accept any sex o, at all at all na em bad pass!*wink*wink*

The essence of this post is to not for comparison or preference issue of the sex of  a baby but to share a typical experience of motherhood that anyone can reckon with.So whats your take on this?keep your comments coming and let the discussion begin!Happy Sunday folks
